Abstract
This study aims at investigating the challenges that Libyan EFL students, majored in translation at the department of English language encounter when translating idioms from English into Arabic . It also focuses on the strategies applied by the students to facilitate the translation . To achieve the goal of this study ,the researchers used questionnaire and a test. The sample of this study consisted of 12 students . The results revealed that some students encountered different kinds of challenges when translating idioms from English into Arabic . These challenges are mostly related to inability to find a target language equivalent and unawareness of cultural differences between English and Arabic .
