Abstract
In the crude oil production process the crude oil is produced as a form of emulsion
where the water droplets are dispersed in the oil, the form of emulsion is either water
in oil emulsion or oil in water emulsion both of this emulsion forms causes several
problems. Therefore, before transporting or refining the oil, it is essential to separate
the water for economic and operational reasons. Minimizing the water level in the oil
reduces the corrosion of the pipelines and maximizes pipeline usage. The most effective
method to overcome the problem is to demulsify the crude by using demulsifiers.
Demulsifiers is a method used to destabilize the interfacial film between the droplets,
by using different demulsification techniques biological, physical and chemical.
Chemical demulsification is the most widely applied method of treating water-in-oil
and oil-in-water emulsions and involves the use of chemical additives to accelerate the
emulsion breaking process.
