Abstract
The presence of toxic heavy metals such as lead in water environment, is one of the
most environment problems in the developing countries. Adsorption technique is one of the
effective methods were used for removal of lead ions from polluted water. In the present
work, consumed green tea leaves without further treatment were used for the removal of lead
ions from polluted water. Batch adsorption experiments explained that the consumed green
tea leaves has a high adsorption efficiency for adsorption of lead ions onto it's surface. Several
parameters affecting the adsorption process were studied such as initial pH of lead ion
solutions, adsorbent concentration and contact time. Adsorption kinetics such as pseudosecond
order reaction was studied. Langmuir and Freundlich models were applied for
describing the adsorption process. The maximum adsorption capacity of Pb(II) onto
consumed green tea leaves at 313 and 320 K were 192.31 and 138.88 mg/g, respectively.
